Peer

Defintion: someone of similar power or status to oneself.

Peer is a person who we feel we have similar power or status to (Floyd, 2017). Peers can be friends or classmates because you feel that they do not have power over you. Whereas, bosses, teachers or parents cannot be considered a peer because of their significant power role (Floyd, 2017). If a friend tries to have control or power over you, it may impact your communication or friendship.

Someone who is considered a peer to Lip is Karen.  Karen is a girl that is in Lip’s grade that he befriends and hangs out with after class. Karen and Lip date later on in the show but start off as friends. Someone who would not be considered Lip’s peer would be Veronica, Fiona’s friend / co-worker. This is because Veronica is seen as a adult figure and has more power over Lip. Whereas, Karen is equal to Lip and does not have power over him. Karen can also be considered a peer to Ian because he is not much younger than Lip and hangs around Karen and Lip very often.
