Overattribution
Definiton: singling out one or two obvious characteristics of a person and attribute everything they do to that characteristic
The Gallagher family overattributes Franks characteristic of him being a drunk to all of the bad life decisions and the way he treats his family. Although Frank does not treat his family the best all of time, he tries to make up for that in different times throughout the show. For example, Frank goes to the house and cleans the whole house along with tries to fix things around the house as well. The rest of the family doesn’t appreciate it because they think he is just doing it to get money for drugs or alcohol. This is the family overattributing Franks one or two characteristics of being a drunk and only caring about money, but it fact is just doing it to help out Fiona around the house.

Overattribution is when we attribute certain behaviors to a single characteristic of a person (Floyd, 2017). This can be considered a form of mental laziness by not understanding why that person is acting the way they are. This can happen often to a group of people like the homeless or minorities.
