Confirming Messages
Definition: behaviors that indicate how much we value another person
In one of the few episodes featuring Monica, depressed and uninvolved mother of the Gallagher children, Monica is staying at the house and trying to get back in touch. Although short-lived, during her stay, she gets into a fight with Fiona about whose kid's they actually are (morally). The confirming message comes from Monica when she acknowledges everything that Fiona has done for the children and she thanks her and tells her that she loves her very much for all she has done; she shows that she values Fiona, not only as a daughter, but as the person who took on the responsibility of all of her children. Monica mostly displays confirming messages to Debbie, because she is the most 'loyal' to her; she constantly tells her how much she loves and values her. For the most part, Monica is the person who shows examples of confirming messages the most.

Confirming messages are statements that have value for other people (Floyd, 2017). This is considered positive language. There are three types which are recognition, acknowledgement and endorsement (Floyd, 2017).
