Empathy
Definiton: the ability to think and feel as others do.
Frank is the best example of empathy in Shameless, or should we say LACK or empathy? He doesn't sympathize with anyone, nor does he look at any situation from anyone's perspective but his own. Frank simply thinks and feels how he wants to think and feel; it doesn't matter what is going on, or who is involved, he thinks what he wants and that is the end of it. There are countless examples for Frank's lack of empathy in the show, like when he left Fiona in charge of the children when she was just 7 years old; he doesn't know how she feels because he never put himself in the situation of responsibility- so he lacks the empathy to feel how she feels because he has never assumed the role of a parent.

Empathy is to recognize and and understand other peoples' feelings and thoughts (Floyd, 2017). This is important to better understand how others view and feel about situations (Floyd, 2017).
