In-Group

Defintion: People who have the same identities and relates to in a group of people

The south-side neighborhood can be considered an in-group in Shameless. The people who live on the south-side of Chicago are apart of an in-group. All of the people in this neighborhood will stand up for each other when needed. They also share a lot of the same identities and characteristics. The Gallagher family can also be considered an in-group. They are a very close family and will have each others back no matter what. For example, when Ian gets in trouble with the tough neighborhood boy, Fiona, Lip, Carl and Debbie went outside (with a bat in hand) to tell the neighborhood boy to leave Ian alone. This is an example of an in-group because they all share the same passion of fighting and standing up for one another.

An in-group can be described as a group with whom we identify (Floyd, 2017). These can be anywhere from a team, family, and social groups. Many people want to be considered an in-group to better fit in and feel apart of something (Floyd, 2017).
