Immediacy Behavior

Definition: nonverbal behavior that conveys attraction or affiliation

When a character named Jimmy is attracted to Fiona he shows her this by doing many favors for her. The first favor he does for her is buying the family a new washer machine. The first time he was there Fiona had to kick their old washer machine to get it to work. Jimmy also buys her expensive chocolates and flowers, takes her to fancy restaurants and eventually buys her a house. Jimmy knows that Fiona and her family do not have a lot of money so he believes that buying stuff for her will show Fiona he likes her. This is called immediacy behavior.

Immediacy behavior is when nonverbal communication send messages of attrition or affiliation (Floyd, 2017). This can be shown through flirting such a touching, kissing or tone of voice.
