Direct Conflict

Defintion: An open, straightforward approach to engaging in conflict

Direct conflict is displayed in the show when Carl becomes a drug dealer. Fiona addresses the problem directly by telling Carl it is inappropriate and that he shouldn’t be doing it. Fiona tries to persuade him by telling him he is going to end up like their father, Frank. Carl argues his point by telling Fiona that he is not doing the drugs himself, he is the drugs. This problem gets resolved by the police arresting Carl- once he gets out of juvenile jail, he decides to leave that life behind him.

Direct conflict is when people deal with their conflict openly (Floyd, 2017). This is when two people have arguments and conversations about the conflict they are having.
