Equivocation
Defintion: a form of deception that involves giving vague ambiguous answers.
Equivocation is when someone deceives another by giving vague answers that create a false impression (Floyd, 2017). Once the vague answers are communicated, it is considered a from of deception.
Frank uses equivocation when speaking of his children and 'home'. He often tries to woo women by vaguely telling them that he has children and that home life is "fine"; he doesn't do into very much detail at all because that would reveal that he isn't involved enough to know the condition of his house or his children. Frank gets away with equivocation a lot because nobody ever questions him, he always has a new story/lie to tell and they don't want to get into it. Frank uses these vague answers with government officials, everyday bar-goers, and his children.
