Self-Esteem
Definition: how one sees their own value
Thinking back to Karen’s born-again-virgin episode, this definitely plays a role. When her father calls her a “whore”, Karen’s self-esteem plummets and she rebels against her father. She figures that if that is what he sees her as, that is what she might as well be. She begins to not respect herself because she thinks that that is the way that everyone views her. Now, seeing himself as a failure, Eddie (her father) also lacks self-esteem because he feels that he has failed as a father and he ultimately pays the price of not being able to bare it by committing suicide.

Self-Esteem is the way that you view yourself and how much you view your own self-worth (Floyd, 2017). Some of these things include how you view your own relationships, accomplishments and your looks. High self-esteem and low self-esteem can affect your communication. Having high self-esteem can make your more communication more confident and having low-self esteem can do the opposite (Floyd, 2017).
