Self-Monitoring

Definition: an individuals awareness of how he or she looks and how that persons behavior is affecting others

There are MANY instances in Frank Gallagher’s life where he shows both no training in self-monitoring, and no remorse in lacking the skill. Frank likes to think of himself as on a pedestal, better than everyone else, and as someone who is always right. He assumes that because he is a white male that he is owed something from society, even though he contributes nothing to it; and he is not afraid to voice his opinions no matter who is around. Frank is by far the most ignorant character in the show and lets nobody/nothing change his strong opinions.

Self-monitoring is being aware of your own behavior and how it has to effects on others (Floyd, 2017). This is an important trait to have to be aware of how you look and act around others in social settings (Floyd, 2017).
